Krishniah Chetty Group – a divine wedding jewellery ensemble inspired by the celestial love story of Godha Devi and Sri Ranganatha Swamy. A symbolic collection close to our hearts, and one that comes from the heart; the Amuktamalyada Collection is for those who attach deep meaning to every aspect of their special day.
The Epic Love Story
The inspiration behind the Amukthamalyadha Collection springs from the legendary tale of Godha Devi’s divine love and commitment to Lord Ranganatha Swamy.
The story goes as such…
One fine day, a great saint named Perialwar found a golden-hued baby in his garden of tulasi plants. Understanding her to be a gift of the divine, he took the baby in as his daughter and named her Godha – the daughter of the soil.
Godha, from a young age, was told stories of the magnificence of Lord Krisha from her devout father. She developed great bhakti for the Lord, associating Him as her playmate and soulmate, and eventually developing a fervent desire to marry the Lord.
In her profound love and devotion for Lord Krishna, one day, she wore the flower garland that her father had prepared for offering to the Lord, secretly deriving great joy by considering the Lord to be her groom. This activity of Godha’s continued for a while, until one day, her father discovered her little secret and refrained from offering the garland worn by Godha to the Lord – replacing it with a freshly prepared garland instead. That night Lord Krishna himself appeared in Perialwar’s dream, conveying his displeasure that the garland offered to him was not as fragrant as it used to be when Godha would wear it first!
Perialwar realised that Godha was in fact an incarnation of the Goddess herself, and her devotion to Lord Krishna was not to be taken lightly. He waited for the Lord to take his daughter’s hand in marriage – and one day, soon enough, Lord Krisha arrived with his entourage of a 1000 elephants! And thus, in a grand and auspicious setting Perialwar gave away Godha in marriage to Lord Krisha. After the sacred union, when the divine couple entered the sanctum sanctorum of the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple, the Lord merged into the moorthi of Lord Ranganatha and Godha merged at the feet of the deity too.To this day, in temples around the world, the tradition of offering the worn flower garland by the Devi to the Lord, remains unchanged – a tribute to their immortal love and divine connection.
